(39) Anita Blake #21

Meh. The Anita in this book is so very different from the conflicted Anita of the early days. This is not a bad thing, but the book’s plot was super thin and resolved far too quickly — the bulk of it was an overdose of unnecessary sex scenes and Anita’s ruminations on the nature of love. Basically a whole book to show us in overabundant detail how her moral stance has shifted.  Glad it was a library loaner.

(31) Spellbound #1

Quick Kindle read (I was flipping through mine looking for something at random and liked the cover art, lol), I started and finished this one the same day. I didn’t get anything ~else~ done for a few hours, but I did finish this.

End result — it was okay. Not great, and there are a couple of spots where it just outright doesn’t make sense, but not a bad little book. I’ll probably read the next one, if it’s cheap or free since the writing itself had issues that would prevent my editorial snob self from paying more than a couple bucks for a sequel.

(26) Hollows #10

Love this series! This one was dark with less humor than the last one had to offset the darkness, but still a good read.

(25) Otherworld #10.4 <novella>

The reader was a bit nasal, and this was by far the weakest Paige I’ve seen in any of the Otherworld stories.  Was okay as a car listen, but doubt I’d have made it through the paper version.

(94) Timeless Trilogy, book 3

This was by far the most disappointing of the three books in this trilogy. It was so upbeat and happy that I felt like I needed to brush my teeth after reading to make sure they don’t rot from all the sugary sweetness.  This was a wrap-up novel for a trilogy, I get that. But still, it had no tension, no suspense.  The characters of the love story in this one really got the short end of the stick in terms of character development and action. Having all the tension in the flashbacks just made the current era scenes that much flatter.

The biggest disappointment for me, though, was the fact that I expected an indie author to improve as she gained skill, and it just didn’t happen. By a vast margin the first book in this series is the best.  All in all, read the first one for some fluffy fun, but skip the rest of the series.
