Dy's Take

Wild Seed by Octavia Butler

I read Butler’s Fledgling years ago — a brilliant new take on the vampire thing and what felt like the promising beginning to a new series — then Ms. Butler died and I gave up hope.

This was a random book given to me by a friend — I started scanning it while organizing my books and… spent the rest of the day reading it . It was THAT good. Brilliant, and dark, and harsh. Sci-fi, but so character-driven that the fantastic elements were almost unimportant. Plan to acquire the rest of the series posthaste!
