(82) Odd Thomas, book 4

4/5

Would have been a 5, since I love the Odd Thomas books (despite not much caring for most of Koontz’s other work), but it suffered from heavy duty Dan Brown syndrome.  There’s dropping the reader into the middle of the action and then there’s writing ridiculously active and dramatic prose that only covers a 24-hour time period in the fictional universe. This leaned a little too heavily to the latter for me.

I did enjoy the fact that every time I thought Odd was okay for a few minutes a new baddie would show up, but at the same time even this became a trope.

On a side note — was my last book of 2010.  I aim for a hundred books a year or so and fell well shy this year, even with audio and graphic novels.  Prolly due to all the playing with yarn and bits of glass <beads> I did this year. When I look at my completed project pictures, though, I find I can live with myself.  Still, going to try to do better in 2011.
