The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

(77) Hunger Games, book 1

I heard the buzz about this when the first one came out, since I used to hang out in a couple of listservs for children’s writers. I didn’t pay much attention until my 9yo discovered Collins’ other series, “Gregor the Overlander,” at school.  The name rung a bell, and I remembered a friend being impressed with the series, so I grabbed this one while I was buying the girl Gregor book 2 (or was it 3?) back in October.

And finally started reading it when we went to ILs for Christmas.

SO good.  Painfully, achingly, heart breakingly good. I’ve finished the series and I can honestly say that this was the best, strongest book of the trilogy.

4.5/5 — pulled half a star for brutality of the subject matter in a YA.  I’m not sure what the target age range is on this, but I like 14+.
