Dy's Take

( 70 ) Suddenly Supernatural, Book 1

This was a cute little paranormal. I liked it because it was, overall, incredibly innocent. I also liked it because it was a branch of paranormal infrequently touched on and one of the oldest in human culture: spirit talking (this is not a spoiler, it says it on the back of the book, lol).

I also liked that there was not a boy-related issue in sight. And that the author, with a light but deft touch, managed to bring up issues of social bullying, parental discord, and how hard it is to figure out who you are and who you want to be when you wake up a teenager.

Very cute, and a good one to share with a younger girl who wants in on the YA paranormal trend but is too young for the racier teen stuff.

I don’t think it’s going to hold up well to the passage of time because it is SO overfilled with pop culture references.  They fit the book and the 13yo female protagonist and her friend, but they are, nonetheless, over the top.
