Thursday Next: First Among Sequels by Jasper Fforde

Filed under: Fantasy — Dynila @ 3:23 pm

(a Thursday Next novel)

Quite possibly the best Thursday book yet, except the one immediately after The Eyre Affair; of course, any book that indicates the beginning of all life (or was it the end, it’s been a while) is strawberry marshmallow fluff, well…yea, how do you top that?

Moby Dick by Herman Melville

Egads. Now I know why I never read it in high school. If you take out the massively boring quantities of thoroughly unnecessary (not too mention ludicrously inaccurate in this day and age) info on Cetaceans and whaling, it’s barely a novella. Still, one of my all time favorite quotes came from this book and it was nice to read it in context.

For there is a Catskill eagle in some souls that can alike dive down into the blackest gorges, and soar out of them again and become invisible in the sunny spaces. And even if he forever flies within the gorge, that gorge is in the mountains; so that even in his lowest swoop the mountain eagle is still higher than the other birds upon the plain, even though they soar.”

Not bad. A very slow, dry read. I didn’t dislike it, but, unless another one falls in my lap the way this one did, I doubt I’ll read any more of this series.

You Suck: A Love Story by Christopher Moore

Considering how little I liked the last CM book my book club read I’m not sure why I read this one.  It had a few laugh out loud moments, but not enough to make me want to read it ever again.  I’ll be avoiding the rest of his stuff from here on out.

(anthology)

This was a birthday present off my wishlist so I appreciate the thought. The stories, on the other hand, were a disappointment. But someone else wanted it, too, so at least it netted me a credit at PaperbackSwap.com.

omigosh I ~loved~ this book, even with its improbable happy ending.  While not a huge fan of books-turned-movies, the movie version of this is a scream, too.
